ARC seminar: Spotlight on hydrogen and fuel cell activities and International development

Hydrogen technology plays an important role in the transition to electricity-based fuels and the targeted expansion of the energy system on the basis of renewable energies. It serves as a link between the power, transport and heating sectors. Their development is systemically relevant and crucial for sector coupling.

Thorsten Herbert has been advancing the market preparation of hydrogen and fuel cell technology at the National Organization for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW) GmbH in Berlin since November 2008. He coordinates the activities of the National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP) as Head of Program NIP. Its main focus is on hydrogen-powered vehicles for road and rail transport (cars and fleet vehicles, such as buses) and the corresponding hydrogen infrastructure.

In this ARC seminar Herbert will talk about hydrogen and fuel cell activities and International development, in particular market preparation and implementation of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in Germany and internationally. He will also touch upon international polecy issues , and how the the field of hydrogen and fuel cell technology, were set at the international level. Two multinational declarations, the Tokyo Statement and the Linz Hydrogen Declaration, where participating nations agreed on a common approach for establishing the technology.
