Job description

Jeg er utdannet molekylærbiolog med hovedfag i biokjemi og har en PhD i immunologi. Mitt forskningsområde dekker molekylær biologi innen immunologi og autoimmunitet, Jeg forsker på sykdomsmekanismene som fører til utvikling av den autoimmune sykdommen systemisk lupus erythematosus (SLE) og spesielt utviklingen av lupus nefritt (LN). Vårt mål er å kunne stille diagnosen på et tidligere stadium og utvikle nye pasient spesifikke behandlings strategier.

 

Jeg underviser immunologi og autoimmunitet til BSc og MSc i biomedisin og medisin studenter. Jeg er også ansvarlig for bachelor oppgaven i biomedisin (MBI-2010).

 

Jeg er i tillegg nestleder utdanning ved institutt for medisinsk biologi der jeg har ansvar for alle undervisere og all undervisning som gis av IMB.

    Research interests

    Mitt hovedmål er å utvikle nye diagnostiske markører og ikke invasive avbildningsmetoder som kan føre til tidligere påvisning av lupus nefritt hos SLE pasienter.

    SLE er blant annet karakterisert av at autoantistoffer binder seg i nyrene og disse nedslagene fortykker membranene som igjen fører til nyresvikt. Autoantistoffer og kromatin aktiverer nyreceller og er viktige for initieringen av nyrebetennelse (lupus nefritt). Vi kartlegger derfor rollen til spesialiserte celler som endotel- og mesangial celler i nyrene under utviklingen av lupus nefritt. I tillegg er det gjort lite forskning på hvilken rolle andre celler i nyrene som tubuliceller, makrofager og dendrittiske celler, har i interstitiell inflammasjon. Vi fokuserer på hvilken effekt inflammasjon i disse cellene har på utviklingen av nyreaffeksjon i SLE. I tillegg har vi oppdaget nye strukturer som dannes i nyrer som er inflammerte, såkalte tertiære lymfoide strukturer (TLS). Disse har samme oppbygning som lymfeknuter, men mangler kapsel. Ved hjelp av genteknologiske og immunologiske analyser av humant nyrevev karakteriserer vi hvilken rolle de ovennevnte cellene og strukturene har i utviklingen av human lupus nefritt. Vårt må er å etablere og utføre klinisk PET/MRI undersøkelse på SLE pasienter med og uten nyreaffeksjon basert på prekliniske PET/MRI og PET/CT studier på lupus mus.
