This webpage is intended for guest students, such as those seeking admission to individual courses (formerly known as freemovers), summer school participants, and Erasmus+ trainees from non-partner educational institutions.

Note: The freemover programme has been discontinued at UiT. We now only accept exchange students who are electronically nominated by our partner institutions through formal exchange agreements.

Admission to Individual Courses for Non-Exchange Students

Students with EU/EEA citizenship may apply for individual courses at UiT. However, they will not be granted exchange student status, which means:

  • Admission to individual courses does not entitle you to exchange student privileges at UiT.
  • Admission to individual courses is managed by the Admission Office, not the office responsible for exchange students.
  • The Admission Office will not sign Erasmus+ Learning Agreements, Erasmus+ Confirmations of Exchange, or any documents related to Erasmus+ scholarships.
  • Admission to individual courses follows its own rules and deadlines.

How to apply

 Who is a independent researcher?

A guest or independent researcher (including PhD students) is defined as someone invited by a UiT department, research centre, or project to teach, lecture, or conduct research in a valued field, for a limited period.

Independent researchers are not employed by or paid any salary by UiT. Independent researchers are not formally registered at UiT, and the university therefore bears no institutional responsibility. This means that they initially do not automatically have access to basic IT services (login to computers, e-mail account, storage of data, printing, etc), or access to buildings and laboratories. However, the hosting faculty or department may approve and allocate access rights. The Head of Department manages the administrative hosting, in collaboration with the research unit when necessary.

How to apply to become an independent researcher?

To increase your chances of arranging a research visit, we recommend establishing direct contact with UiT researchers in your field. Explore research groups, projects, centres, and schools here: Research at UiT | UiT

Unfortunately, UiT does not offer summer programmes, practical training, internships, clinical rotations, or other activities for international students during the summer holiday period (June–July).
