Course catalogues for incoming exchange students are updated each semester: 15 September for students commencing in the spring semester (January - July) and 15 March for students commencing in the autumn semester (August - December).

Prospective students who plan to come to UiT next year should refer to course catalogues from previous semesters until the updated versions are published. Please note that only minor changes are typically made to course offerings each semester.

  • Accessing your timetable: Timetable is published after your arrival to Norway. Information about how to access the Timetable and change courses will be sent to you after the admission process is finalized in August (for commencement in the autumn semester) or December (for commencement in the spring semester). Selecting your course modules is one of the most important steps in your application. It directly affects whether you receive your admission offer on time. Students who ignore or overlook the information in this section often experience delays in their application process. We strongly encourage you to read this section carefully.

Key criteria for choosing your courses:

1- How to select your courses:

  • You must choose most of your courses within the subject field of your current degree programme at your home educational institution.
  • You may select courses from other departments if you meet the admission requirements for those courses. (Note: some academic departments at UiT restrict access to their courses to only students coming from their Erasmus+ partner institutions.)
  • Important: Students who select courses from multiple academic schools or departments and across various subject fields are more likely to experience timetable clashes and delays in the assessment of their application.

2- Selecting courses from different campuses (cities):

  • It is not possible to mix on-site courses from different campuses within the same semester, as the campuses are located in different cities.

3- Admission requirements (course prerequisites):

  • Each course has specific admission requirements (prerequisites). You must meet these requirements when selecting your courses.
  • Note: UiT cannot be held responsible if you are not accepted onto a course due to unmet prerequisites.

4- Credit load:

  • One full semester corresponds to 30 ECTS credits. Note: You may take fewer credits if approved or required by your exchange coordinator at your home institution.
  • You cannot add more than 60 ECTS per semester your Course Application Form or Learning Agreement.
  • Course packages: If your host Erasmus+ academic department or school at UiT offers courses packages, you must select courses within those packages.
  • Visa requirements: Students requiring a visa to enter Norway (non-EU/EEA citizens) must select at least 30 ECTS to be eligible to apply for a student visa after being accepted to exchange programme at UiT.

5- Course levels:

Each course begins with three abbreviation letters (e.g., KJE for Chemistry, BIO for Biology, PSY for Psychology, ELE for electronics, JUR  for law) followed by four numerical digits.

  • Courses numbered from 1000 – 2000 are for bachelor’s students.
  • Courses numbered from 3000 – 4000 are for master’s students, meaning you must have completed a bachelor's degree or 180 ECTS at your home educational institution to be eligible.

6- Selecting courses in Engineering (Campus Narvik):

  • All courses in Narvik are at the master’s level, except for courses offered in electrical engineering, and follow a block-based teaching method.
  • Each semester is divided into two terms, each with a workload of 15 ECTS and a duration of 9 weeks. A typical course of 5 ECTS is taught over two teaching weeks.
  • Choose courses within the same subject field and course code. Mixing course codes may result in timetable clashes and exam schedule conflicts due to the block-based teaching structure.

Publishing dates:

Course catalogues for incoming exchange students are updated each semester:

  • 15 September for students beginning in the spring semester (January–July)

COURSES TAUGHT IN ENGLISH

COURSE MODULES TAUGHT IN NORWEGIAN

Conflict-free course packages are designed so that the courses within each combination do not overlap in the timetable. This means you will not need to change courses after admission due to scheduling conflicts between lectures.

We highly recommend that you choose one of the following course packages, provided that you fulfill the admission requirements or any prerequisites for each course in the package.

Timetable: The courses within each package are coordinated with each other, which means that the exams and schedules will not collide. Other combinations of courses than the course packages listed below, will probably have collisions in schedules and exams.
