Ian Peter Grohse

Professor i eldre historie
Grohse har mastergrad fra Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2009) og doktorgrad fra Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (2014). Doktorgraden var del av det NFR-finansierte prosjektet «Norgesveldet – The Realm of Norway and its Dependencies as a Political System», ledet av Steinar Imsen (2010–2014). Doktorgradsforskningen omhandlet Orknøyenes og Hjaltlands forhold til Norge i senmiddelalderen og ble senere utgitt som boken Frontiers for Peace in the Medieval Norway (2017).
Fra 2014 til 2016 hadde Grohse et postdoktorstipend, finansiert av Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, ved Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Fra 2016 til 2017 var han førsteamanuensis i eldre historie ved Historisk institutt ved Høgskulen i Volda,. Siden 2017 har han vært ansatt, først som førsteamanuensis og siden 2024 som professor, i eldre historie ved Institutt for arkeologi, historie, religionsvitenskap og teologi ved UiT – Norges arktiske universitet.
Grohses forskning tar for seg ulike aspekter ved norsk og nordeuropeisk historie i høy- og senmiddelalderen. I tillegg til studier av de norske skattlandene, særlig Orknøyene og Færøyene, har han publisert arbeider om blant annet Norges mindreårige konger, de norske borgerkrigene, bondeopprør, riksrådet og forfatningen i senmiddelalderen samt tidlige sjøretter og vergemålslovgivning. Blant hans forskningbidrag er også diskusjoner om politiske og økonomiske forhold i Nordkalotten. Grohse er redaksjonsmedlem i NORDEUROPAforum, Acta Borealia, samt leder for forskningsgruppen Creating the New North.

Research interests
Grohse har sin masterutdanning fra Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2009) og doktorgrad fra Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet i Trondheim (2014). Det sistnevnte var del av det NFR-finansierte prosjektet "Norgesveldet – The Realm of Norway and its Dependencies as a Political System", ledet av prof. Steinar Imsen (2010-2014). Hans doktorgradsforskning tok for seg Orknøyene og Hjaltlands forhold til Norge i senmiddelalderen, og ble senere utgitt som bok (Frontiers for Peace in the Medieval Norway. The Norwegian-Scottish Frontier c.1260-1470) i 2017.
