A warm welcome to this exciting workshop, which addresses a central topic that you will benefit from discussing with other supervisors and experts in the field.

Ethics in postgraduate supervision is a cornerstone of effective and responsible research supervision. As supervisors, it is imperative to understand and uphold ethical standards to ensure both the integrity of the supervisory relationship and the research process. This workshop serves as an introduction to the ethical considerations in postgraduate supervision, providing a solid foundation for fostering an ethical research environment

To introduce this important topic, we have invited Helene Ingierd, the General Director of the National Research Ethics Committees in Norway. Ingierd holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Oslo and has been a Research Fellow at the Peace Research Institute Oslo. She has worked in the field of research ethics and research integrity in different capacities for over fifteen years. Some of the questions she will address in her talk include:

- What research ethical challenges arise with the role of the supervisor?
- What responsibility do supervisors have for training and how can supervisors contribute to a good research ethics culture?
- What training should supervisors receive in research ethics?

This workshop is offered as a voluntary part of the Development Program for PhD Supervisors (UNIPED-600) as well as part of the continuation program for PhD supervisors. It is also open to other interested employees at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
