NORWEL Symposium 2024
Workshop Success!
I’m excited to share highlights from my recent participation in the NORWEL Symposium 2024, hosted by NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) in Trondheim where I presented in a workshop on ethical dilemmas in social work research, focusing on the Use of Individual Plans in NAV. Read on for a recap!

As part of Workshop 3: Ethical Issues for Communicating Research Results I, I presented on the ethical dilemmas in researching service coordination among frontline social workers.
Presentation Highlights
During my presentation, I discussed:
-
The research context and preliminary findings from my study on service coordination challenges faced by frontline social workers in Norway and Spain.
-
Key ethical dilemmas, including:
-
Balancing time constraints with the depth of qualitative interviews.
-
Navigating the tension between anonymity and transparency in research communication.
-
Addressing organizational shortcomings while preserving participants' integrity.
-
-
Strategies for overcoming service coordination constraints, such as networking for families and solution-oriented approaches.
Key Takeaways
The workshop provided a platform for engaging discussions on the ethical complexities of social work research. Participants offered valuable feedback on addressing sensitive findings, ensuring voluntary participation, and navigating institutional pressures in research.
Why This Matters
Presenting at the symposium was an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on ethical research practices in social work. By sharing insights and learning from others, we can collectively improve the integrity and impact of research in this field.
What’s Next?
I am now incorporating the feedback and insights gained from the workshop into my ongoing research on the Use of Individual Plans in NAV. Stay tuned for updates on future presentations, publications, and developments in this project!
Thank you to the organizers (NORWEL) and participants for making this symposium a meaningful and enriching experience.
