UiT has three formal collaborations that students can use and take part in:

UiT wants to contribute to an open and innovation-promoting culture. When it comes to commercialization and business establishment, our main focus is on research-based innovations. This is reflected in the instruments that can contribute to this process; be it the Entrepreneurship Fund, or Norinnova's Student Incubator. In addition, UiT has a number of studiy programs that support innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship.

UiT's structure consists internally of a central competence unit, SEFI, and an extrernal company Norinnova AS, which advises and offers incubator facilities

There are establishments of students at UiT. In recent years, there has been a lot of focus on four companies, all of which have received the student million (STUD-ENT) from the Research Council. These are knowledge-based establishments that now employ more people and raise new and fresh capital

Noises in the lungs can give an indication that something is wrong. Lung sounds can be difficult to detect and interpret using a standard stethoscope. Medsensio develops a smart algorithm based on machine learning that automatically detects and interprets sounds in the lungs.

There is believed to be a great potential for commercialization and entrepreneurship based on students' activities at Norwegian universities and colleges. In the latest High North report, Norinnova is given 12 million over three years, to a gründer fund. UiT wants to target the innovation fund at students as well, and Sparebank1 Nord-Norge contributes financially in the entrepreneurship fund to the Idégeneratoren and in Venture Cup.

• Arctic Accelerator (KUPA): Includes advice and contributes to acceleration in the development of an idea/concept
• STUD-ENT: Application for NOK 1 million for student entrepreneurship. Project support for student-driven business ideas
• Commercialization grants (Kommersialiseringstilskudd): Managed by Innovation Norway
• Private investors: Obtained through own efforts and participation/applications to the above bodies

UiT has from 2023 become a member of the Pan-European Seal Traineeship Program. This is a comprehensive IP programme which bridges academia and the IP labour market. It covers opportunities in many academic areas. Through it, high-achieving young university graduates or students in the last year of their studies can access paid traineeships at the European Union Intellectual Property Office in Alicante (Spain) or the European Patent Office in Munich (Germany), helping them to get a foot in the door of the competitive world of IP through valuable on-the-job multicultural professional work experience. It’s a 12-months traineeship programme. 

EPO are hosting a series of online information sessions for students, starting Friday Jan 16th 2026 and continuing throughout January and February. These sessions offer a peer-to-peer perspective, with current young professionals sharing insights into their work, daily life at the EPO and practical application tips.

Each info session follows the same core structure and offers a peer-to-peer introduction to the Young Professionals Programme, led by current young professionals. While each session has a thematic focus and features young professionals working in that area, all sessions cover the full programme scope, including daily life at the EPO, benefits and application guidance. Students and graduates from any background are therefore welcome to join any session and will gain a complete overview of the programme, with the option to explore specific fields in more depth.

The Action Plan for innovation has identified two areas where measures are to be implemented:

• All of UiT's educations must meet the National qualifications framework for lifelong learning's requirements for innovation education
• UiT will offer innovation and entrepreneurship courses adapted to the characteristics of the various faculties
• As of 2021, there is a requirement for general innovation competence in all study programs. This is a minimum requirement, but especially the Norwegian School of Management has a very comprehensive offer
