Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:

Pediatric whole-body MRI has become an increasingly popular imaging technique in recent decades. However, distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings can be challenging due to the limited research available. This lack of clarity can lead to overdiagnosis and unnecessary follow-ups. The work aimed to create a reference guide for normal bone marrow signals on whole-body MRI in children, which helps differentiate between normal variations and pathology. The study included healthy children and adolescents, as well as children diagnosed with chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis, an inflammatory condition of the bone.
The analysis of healthy children revealed that more than half had at least one finding that could be misinterpreted as pathology in a clinical setting.
This thesis offers a thorough understanding of normal variations in pediatric whole-body MRI and enhances the knowledge of what constitutes normal findings.
