– a talk by art historian Ingeborg Høvik (UiT) in connection with Perspektivet Museum's exhibition At Home We Belong.
In an interview with Louisiana Museum, Inuuteq Storch comments that he wants the history of Greenland to be narrated through a Greenlandic perspective since so much of the historical photographs were taken by outsiders. An important inspiration to Storch's work is the substantial collection of John Møller's photographs at NKA (Greenlands National Museum and Archive) in Nuuk. Møller was the first professional Greenlandic photographer and his more than 3000 glass plate negatives at NKA is an amazing source to images of life and society in West-Greenland in the period 1890-1930. Storch's photobook Mirrored (2021) brings together more than 150 images from Møller's production. In her talk, Høvik examines the connections between Storch and Møller's projects and discusses what an inside perspective might mean in a Greenlandic context.
