Join Arctic Youth for this open breakfast lecture with Professor Hermína Gunnþórsdóttir, titled "The matter of relevant research methodology used with youth – Their core values and new forms of vulnerabilities among youth."

Professor of Education, University of Akureyri, Adjunct Professor at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

In this presentation I will present selected findings from a NordForsk funded research project where we investigated how different narrative interview methods captured young people’s aspirations about their future and present selves, their lived experiences and social contexts. The findings reveal that young people shared varied aspects of their aspirations when using different interview approaches. In the project we explored the core values of 13–15-year-old students in the Nordic countries and how meaning is ascribed to the chosen values. Another focus was on how vulnerability appears in the lives of 14 to16 year old Nordic students. Our findings reveal mostly new forms of vulnerability, that is, experiences of stress, anxiety, doubt, exclusion, and loneliness. In some cases, however, these experiences and feelings can be related to classic forms of vulnerability such as socioeconomic background, ethnicity, and gender.

Coffee and fruit will be served.
