PSY-1203 Cognitive Psychology - 10 ECTS
Course content
The course provides a detailed introduction to cognitive psychology. We will discuss how we sense and interpret information and respond to an everchanging environment. The course provides knowledge of the main theories,cognitive functions, and mechanisms, but also helps understand the central role cognition plays in our everyday lives. The class will involve lectures and practical assignments to help the students solidify their comprehension and develop their ability to collaborate and communicate ideas.Objectives of the course
When the course is completed and passed, the student has received the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
Students should be able to:
- describe the cognitive mechanisms related to perception, attention, memory, language, and higher-order cognition
- discuss how knowledge in cognitive psychology is gained through the experimental approach
- describe and compare the role of situational and individual factors (e.g., mood) on the basic cognitive processes
Skills
Students should be able to:
- communicate fundamental principles of psychological science in an audience-appropriate way
- create a video tutorial that is both accurate and simplified
Competence
Students should be able to:
- apply analytical and critical thinking to evaluate theories and experimental findings in cognitive psychology
- explain a scientific concept or a phenomenon to a wide audience
- collaborate within a small group
