If your home educational institution holds an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE), you may be eligible to undertake training through an Erasmus+ traineeship at UiT The Arctic University of Norway up to one academic year.

Separate deadlines and procedures apply for traineeship students in clinical medicine and healthcare, including: Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Paramedics, Physiotherapy, Social Education (Vernepleie).

Application submission deadlines:

  • Traineeships in the autumn semester (August-December): The submission opens 15 MARCH. Deadline: 1 SEPTEMBER.
  • Traineeships in the spring semester (January-June): The submission starts 15 SEPTEMBER - DEADLINE 1 FEBRUARY.

Duration of Traineeships: Minimum duration: 2 months. Maximum duration: 1 academic year (i.e. two semesters) per study cycle (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD). This applies even if the semesters are non-contiguous.

To be eligible, you must:

  1. Be enrolled in a programme leading to a recognised degree at your home educational institution.
  2. Be registered at a higher education institution with an Erasmus Charter Be enrolled in a programme leading to a recognised degree.
  3. Have a good command of English at B2 or C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  4. Your home/sending institution must be participating in Erasmus+ programme and established in a programme country. Se the list of the programme countries below.
  5. You must have a good command of English at B2 or C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
  6. Be physically present and actively participate in the traineeship activities.

Note: Students who have graduated may only undertake a traineeship if selected by their home institution during their final year, and must complete the traineeship within one year of graduation.

Erasmus+ Programme Countries

Eligible countries include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia and Türkiye.


If you are interested in a traineeship at UiT within the Erasmus+ programme, the best way is to explore for opportunities by directly contacting your possible supervisor at a department or research group at UiT. Please make sure to mention in your email that you are a Guest Erasmus+ for Traineeship and looking for a supervisor.

It is your responsibility to initiate contact with a relevant professor or department at UiT to arrange supervision for your traineeship. Applications without confirmed supervision will not be accepted.


Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement is a binding document. It must be completed, signed, and dated by both you and the responsible person at your home university before uploading it to the registration form.


Before submitting your application, please ensure you meet all eligibility criteria and have secured a supervisor or mentor at UiT.

Required documents:

  1. A completed and signed Learning Agreement.
  2. A copy of your passport or national ID card (for EU/EEA citizens).
  3. Your most recent transcript of records from your home educational institution.

The Learning Agreement is a binding document and must be signed and dated by both you and the responsible person at your home university before submission.

UiT The arctic University of Norway does not issue pr provide any insurance to cover accidents, liability, health, or travel. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that includes emergency repatriation.

  • Health insurance: All inbound exchange students must have health insurance to cover medical expenses during their stay in Norway.
  • Accident and third party liability: All international students (inbound exchange students, joint-degree students and degree / programme students) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway must have adequate insurance coverage against theft, loss, illness, and liability before they leave home. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance that includes emergency repatriation.

Student housing is available only for applicants who meet the following deadlines:

  • 31 MAY for autumn semester (August - December).
  • 30 NOVEMBER for spring semester (January to June).

It is your responsibility to determine which type of visa (for non-EU/EEA students) or registration (for EU/EEA students) you require, and how to obtain it.

If you arrive at UiT The Arctic University of Norway without the correct visa that permits study for the duration of your exchange, you may encounter issues with the local Immigration Office. In some cases, you may be required to leave and re-enter Norway to correct your immigration status.
