Getting from the airport to the city center

The Tromsø airport Langnes is located 3 km from downtown (a 10-minute drive by bus or car)To get to the city center, you can take the Airport Express bus, a city bus, or a taxi.

Taxi
  • The taxi stand is located just outside the airport terminal.
  • The taxi fare from the airport to the city center during daytime on weekdays is approximately 300 NOK. Prices are higher in the evenings, at night, and on weekends: after 6:00 PM, the fare is around 390 NOK, and at night it costs approximately 430 NOK (according to information from Tromsø Taxi as of May 26).

City bus

You can take one of the following busses:

  • Bus 26 (Tromsdalen via the city center) stops at Wi-To.
  • Bus 40 (Tromsø Museum via the city center) stops at Bankgata.
  • Bus 24 (Mortensnes via Giæverbukta) stops at Wi-To.
  • Bus 42 (Stakkevollan via the city center) stops at Killengreens gate.

We recommend taking either bus 26 or 40, as these are the fastest options to reach the Tromsø city center. Bus 42 takes longer due to the tunnel being closed.

There are several options for purchasing a bus ticket:

  • Mobile App: The easiest way is to buy a bus ticket using the "Svipper" app. Download Svipper for Android or iPhone. A single bus ticket in Tromsø costs 48 NOK, but if you travel outside rush hours, you can get it for 26 NOK (this applies to  weekdays from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM and 5:00 PM–1:00 AM). You need a ticket for one zone (Tromsø). A single-zone ticket is valid for 60 minutes from the time you activate it.

  • Ticket MachinesYou can also buy tickets from ticket machines. There is a ticket machine at the bus stop near the airport, where you can pay with a bank card.

  • Onboard Purchase: Tickets can also be purchased directly on the bus, but note that only cash (NOK) is accepted. Bus drivers in Tromsø do not accept bank cards. Bus drivers cannot provide change, so you must have the exact fare of 48 NOK in cash.
