You can travel to Tromsø by plane, bus, or car, but there is no railway connection to the city.
Tromsø has an international airport, Langnes, that has recently been expanded and offers many direct flights connecting Tromsø to Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Gdańsk, and other cities. Tromsø is well-connected to other Norwegian cities, there are direct flights from Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim.
There are many nice hotels in Tromsø city center:
The Tromsø airport Langnes is located 3 km from downtown (a 10-minute drive by bus or car). To get to the city center, you can take the Airport Express bus, a city bus, or a taxi.
You can take one of the following busses:
We recommend taking either bus 26 or 40, as these are the fastest options to reach the Tromsø city center. Bus 42 takes longer due to the tunnel being closed.
There are several options for purchasing a bus ticket:
Mobile App: The easiest way is to buy a bus ticket using the "Svipper" app. Download Svipper for Android or iPhone. A single bus ticket in Tromsø costs 48 NOK, but if you travel outside rush hours, you can get it for 26 NOK (this applies to weekdays from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM and 5:00 PM–1:00 AM). You need a ticket for one zone (Tromsø). A single-zone ticket is valid for 60 minutes from the time you activate it.
Ticket Machines: You can also buy tickets from ticket machines. There is a ticket machine at the bus stop near the airport, where you can pay with a bank card.
UiT The Arctic University of Norway is the only university in Tromsø. To get to its campus (Breivika) you can take one of the following busses:
